Summary 'Dancing Girl' was recovered from the archaeologically significant site, Mohenjo-daro in 1926
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Director General of Pakistan National Museum of Arts, Jamal Shah has said on Saturday that ‘Dancing Girl’ statuette of Mohenjo-daro would be asked back from India in bid to protect the heritage.
The ‘Dancing Girl’ is a bronze statuette that is around 4,500 years old and is believed to be a signifier of Indus Valley Civilization which currently is placed in a museum in Indian capital, New Delhi.
Shah said that a letter would be written to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) urging the institution to help secure the statuette.
He said that the purpose of seeking return of ‘Dancing Girl’ was to protect the heritage.
‘Dancing Girl’ was recovered from the archeologically significant site, Mohenjo-daro in 1926.
The development has come in after tensions between India and Pakistan escalated in September and disturbed ties are continuing through this month.
