ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has moved a plea in the Supreme Court for probe of Panama leaks urging to bar Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and Captain Safdar from carrying on with official duties, reported Monday.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has named Nawaz Sharif and his family party in the petition.

The plea accuses Prime Minister of lying about his assets during an address in the National Assembly and urges the court to disqualify him as premier of the country.

PM Nawaz Sharif has violated the law and gone against the Constitution of Pakistan by not coming clean about the worth of his assets, the petition states.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has also urged the court to put names of the premier and his family in the Exit Control List.

Naeem Bukhari, representing PTI, posed a question to the Prime Minister while addressing media outside the Supreme Court asking him to explain how did he transfer money abroad to establish steel mill in Dubai.

On the other hand, Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Information and Broadcasting claimed that not one point mentioned in PTI’s plea accuses Nawaz Sharif of corruption in capacity of Prime Minister.

Earlier this year, Panama Papers published documents leaked from database of a law firm called Mosack Fonseca that were studied by International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

The documents named 140 world leaders including Nawaz Sharifs daughter and two sons as owners of different offshore companies.

Shell companies generally go with connotation of association with illegal trasnference of money across countries. The paper however did not allege any person mentioned in the documents of using the offshore companies for evading taxes or breaking any law.

But, different opposition parties, mainly Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf raised the issue and pressurized the government prompting the premier to form a parliamentary committee to finalise joint Terms of References in light of which the Supreme Court will probe the matter.

However, the 12-member committee has not been successful to agree on TORs after several meetings.
