ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - A two-day conference of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Finance Ministers has kicked off in Islamabad today (Thursday).
On the first day, Finance Secretaries of the member states have been scheduled to discuss current position of economic and financial cooperation in the region. They will also explore overall outlook of SAARC economies.
The Finance Secretaries would finalize recommendations for Finance Ministers meeting to be held tomorrow.
During two-day session, the members states will review different activities including customs cooperation, avoidance of double taxation, promotion and protection of investment, cooperation in banking sector, and trade liberalization being carried out under SAARC procedures.
It will also suggest measures to enhance regional cooperation South Asian Economic Union.
On the other hand, Secretary Finance Waqar Masood unanimously elected as Chairman of the eighth SAARC Finance Secretaries meeting. He said practical efforts are need for regional economic unity.
He also said focused on the need for focusing on areas including reduction or removal of non-tariff barriers, energy cooperation, trade facilitation measures, investment cooperation, reduction of products in the sensitive list and improvement in connectivity among SAARC member states.
