Summary No organised network behind kidnappings has been traced so far: Punjab govt

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Government has filed report in Supreme Court regarding child kidnappings in Punjab in which it has been told that 170 out of 310 minors have been recovered, reported Thursday.

The report filed today stated that no organised network behind kidnappings has been traced so far.

Justice Saqib Nisar remarked during the hearing that anti-state elements were spreading rumours and social media should not be paid heed to.

According to a police report issued earlier, over 6,500 children were abducted in the past six years out of which over 3,000 were rescued.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Mushtaq Sukhera had stated that majority of the cases involving children that were missing surfaced because the kids ran away from their houses due to violence or unpleasant environment and did not return.

He said that abductions were there but majority of the cases had other reasons behind missing children.

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on August 1 to discuss the issue and overall law and order situation across the province.

The Chief Minister directed authorities to put together a task force to curb child kidnappings and ordered deployment of extra contingents on bus stands, parks and railways stations.

At the time, the report presented to the Chief Minister stated that in the recent few months, 721 children out of 767 were reunited with their families.

On the other hand, Federal Investigation Agency established a dedicated cell in the federal capital to end such abductions in Punjab and sale of body organs.

The step was taken after the agency formally launched investigations in the issue.

Director Mazharul Haq was handed over the responsibility of the cell. According to the FIA spokesperson, the agency was digging more information in the issue.
