Summary The lack of hospitals and proper medical centers has worsened the child birth issue.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Increase in deaths of infants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are caused by untrained midwives who not only risk the lives of babies but also their mothers, reported on Wednesday.

According to health department’s statistics, the number of midwives in KP is 1300 which means that only one midwife is there for 5000 expecting women.

The report stated that traditional ways of thinking, poverty, underdevelopment and lack of facilities are the reasons behind newborn babies’ deaths.

It was also mentioned that in the early six months of current year, the registered gynecology cases were 2 lakh but only 52000 children were born in government hospitals among which majority cases were those who were mishandled by midwives.

The lack of hospitals and proper medical centers has also worsened the issue.
