High-level meeting resumes in Islamabad to discuss NAP implementation

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has convened a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Intelligence Bureau Director General and others to discuss possible amendment in the National Action Plan, reported Thursday.

It is the second meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in two days to review security situation of the country and National Action Plan.

The premier summoned high-level meeting on Wednesday in light of a suicide blast in Quetta’s Civil Hospital that killed 70 persons mostly lawyers.

Besides Chief of Army Staff and DG Intelligence Bureau, Inter-Services Intelligence Director General, MO Director General, Advisor to PM on National Security Lt General (r) Nasir Janjua, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and others have attended the meeting.

According to the sources, the participants are discussing possible amendment in the National Action Plan and widening its scope.

The plan was formed by the government after Army Public School was attacked in December 2014 killing over 140 innocent children and faculty members including the principal.

In the meeting convened by the premier on Wednesday, the participants discussed the internal security situation of the country and different aspects of the National Action Plan.

PM Nawaz was briefed by the federal Interior Minister and National Security Advisor on how terrorist outfits were attacking ‘soft’ targets.

The participants observed that extremists were targeting installations other than state institutions out of desperation owing to successful Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The Prime Minister said that the country was in a state of war with an ideology that wanted to change nation’s way of life.

He said that the government was committed to take all steps necessary to ensure that sacrifices of the martyrs in Quetta blast do not go in vain. He stressed stronger coordination between law enforcement agencies, among the provincial governments and the federal government to achieve positive results within a short period of time.

The Prime Minister also addressed the National Assembly on Wednesday during which he said that the nation was united in the war against terrorism and this war would be taken to its logical conclusion at all costs.

He strongly condemned terror attack in Quetta, and said that such incidents could not deter the resolve of the nation.

The Prime Minister said that we would move forward with full strength and completely eliminate terrorism from the country.

Nawaz Sharif also said that the same extremist ideology targeted former PM, Benazir Bhutto, a community in Safoora Goth, Hazara community in Balochistan, a church and Army Public School Peshawar, and prominent people of the country.
