PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government approved the Local Government Amendment Bill on Wednesday during the session of the KP Assembly, reported Dunya News.

Opposition members present in the assembly boycotted the session upon not being permitted to debate upon the amendments regarding the bill. However, upon the directions of Speaker Asad Qaiser, Minister for Local Government Inayatullah Khan and other ministers including Mushtaq Ghani and Mehmood Khan were able to convince the Opposition members to return to the session.

Opposition leader Maulana Lutfur Rahman stated that the dissenting note of the law ministry was there regarding the bill, upon which Inayatullah Khan stated that the committee that worked under his supervision for the formation of the Local Government Act also represented the Opposition, further stating that 99% of the recommendations made by the committee were approved by KP Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Khattak.

KP government spokesperson Mushtaq Ghani stated that the local government system was an accomplishment of the provincial government which the Opposition was finding hard to digest.

Speaker Asad Qaiser reserved Friday’s session for a debate on the return of the Afghan immigrants while directing all political parties to present their stances in the assembly while also directing Inspector General (IG) police or some other prominent figure to take part in the session as well.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Zareen Zia’s resolution regarding the observation of National Charity Day on the death anniversary of renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi on July 8 every year was also approved during the session.
