Karachi: 2 martyred as unidentified gunmen open fire at Pak army's vehicle

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Two army personnel were martyred after unidentified gunmen opened fire at the vehicle under the use of Pakistan army as it was passing near Saddar Parking Plaza, a few blocks away from the Red Zone area, reported Dunya News.

The personnel were identified as Lance naik Razzar and Sepoy Khadim Hussain. Lance naik Razzaq died on spot because of the firing whereas Khadim Hussain was rushed to the hospital after the incident where he succumbed to his wounds.

Security forces cordoned off the area after the incident whereas evidences were also collected from the crime scene. Sources indicate that three witnesses were also taken into custody by the police.

The personnel driving the vehicle lost control of it after he was shot resulting in the car crashing into a wall nearby.

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and condemned it. Prime Minister directed Sindh government to apprehend those behind the incident as soon as possible. PM Nawaz said that such cowardly attacks by the terrorists will not derail the ongoing battle against terrorism in Karachi.

President Mamnoon Hussain condemned the attack and said that the terrorists behind the incident shall meet their fate soon.

Pakistan People s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the incident and stated that terrorism was an unforgivable act. The dead bodies of both personnel were transferred to Pakistan Naval Station (PNS) Shifa for post-mortem.

Additional Inspector General (IG) Mushtaq Mehar said that the crime scene was being investigated adding that it was too early to state anything about the incident. In-charge Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Raja Umar Khattab stated that a 9mm pistol was used to shoot both personnel.

Hospital sources stated that the attackers shot at the heads and shoulders of the personnel.
