KARACHI (Web Desk) – A summary seeking 90-day extension in Rangers’ special powers has been forwarded to Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah today (Monday), Dunya News reported.

Previously, the paramilitary force’s powers were extended from 4th May till 19th July.

Under the National Action Plan and the Anti-Terrorism Act, the federal cabinet had empowered Rangers to lead a targeted action with the support of police against criminals involved in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in Karachi.

The Rangers launched an operation against militants and criminals in Karachi in 2013.

Karachi has long been gripped by violence, with attacks carried out by militants as well as ethnic elements, criminal gangs and rival political parties.

Recently, improved security in Karachi has been one of the showcase successes for the army’s ongoing security crackdown.
