Summary Met department needs to improve its performance, says Minister for Water and Power

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Wednesday expressed his anger over the performance of the Meterological department by stating that rainfall in the country did not occur according to the predictions made by the department, adding that the institution should focus on improving its performance, reported Dunya News.

Meeting of the Federal Flood Commission was held on Wednesday under the leadership of Khawaja Asif. Preparations made by provincial and federal departments regarding the Monsoon rains were looked upon during the meeting.

Officials representing various institutions gave briefing over the beforehand preparations made in regards to the Monsoon rains and also stated that Pakistan army was also on the alert in order to deal with inundation.

Khawaja Asif directed Met department to improve its weather prediction system in order to effectively tackle with an emergency situation. Federal minister also ordered the institutions to remain active while dealing with rescue operations.

Provincial representatives present in the meeting were directed to remove hurdles in the paths of rivers whereas drains in important cities, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot and Rawalpindi, were also directed to be cleaned.
