KARACHI (Dunya News) – 72-inch Dhabeji pipeline is yet to be repaired over 24 hours after it burst depriving the city of around 180 million gallons of potable water, reported Monday.

Water board authorities have vowed to clear the snag and restore supply within 48 hours.

According to the officials concerned, Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Mehmoodabad and surrounding areas have been affected. According to the board, the repair work would be completed by 6:00 am tomorrow.

On the other hand, the issue has given rise to a faceoff between water board and K-Electric. Water board authorities have put the blame on power outages saying that long outages have caused the water shortage.

However, K-Electric stated that the water board is rubbing the responsibility off its shoulders by shifting the blame.

In June, sewage on the streets of Quaidabad added to the problems of the locals after a 21-inch pipe burst.

Different streets were waterlogged and residents of Quaidabad area had to pass through filthy water to get to their destinations.

A side of the road was shut for the repair work which resulted in traffic jam.

Residents of Karachi have been struggling with inadequate water supply for years as water board authorities complain of insufficient funds while tanker owners command hiked prices once the system breaks down due to an issue.
