Nearly half of Karachi awaits power supply 15 hours after downpour

Summary If not a shower, at least a drizzle is expected in 80 percent areas of entire Sindh

KARACHI (Dunya News) – At least 30 percent of the city is blacked out as feeders of the K-Electric tripped after the first monsoon shower last night, reported Wednesday.

Out of the total 220 feeders that had tripped last night, some have been restored however, at least 30 percent of the city still does not have power supply more than 15 hours after the downpour. 

Reportedly, staff of a local court abandoned the work while the courtroom was emptied owing to lack of electricity.

Roads in different localities are waterlogged and administration’s tall claims of better management this time around were refuted.

On the other hand, Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more showers in the coming days.

Different streets and roads in KDA Chowrangi, Hyderi, Allah Wali Chowrangi, Orangi Town, FTC, Korangi, Green Town, Golden Town, Kala Pul, Saddar, Rashid Minhas Road, NIPA Chowrangi and Quaidabad were inundated.

Residents of Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Malir, Abul Hassan Isfahani Road and North Nazimabad also faced different issues due to administration’s slackness.


The Meteorological department reported that Nazimabad saw a 32mm rainfall, airport surroundings were showered with 31mm rain while it was around 12mm in Landhi, Faisal Base and Masroor Base.

More than 220 feeders supplying electricity to K-Electric customers tripped as soon as the rainfall started.

According to the weather forecast department, the current spell would continue for two more days and the city will get more even heavy showers in the first week of July and during Eid holidays.

If not a shower, at least a drizzle is expected in 80 percent areas of entire Sindh in coming 24 hours.
