Summary MQM to protest outside ECP's provincial office on Thursday over delay in elections
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Delay in the elections for Karachi’s mayor and deputy mayor resulted in bringing political adversaries Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) closer as both parties decided to solve the problems faced by the public together, reported Dunya News.
While addressing a joint press conference involving both MQM and PTI leaders, Muttahida’s nominated mayor Wasim Akhtar stated that the elections for mayor and deputy mayor were being delayed according to a planned conspiracy.
He added that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Sindh government were not serious in fulfilling the local bodies electoral procedure. Akhtar announced that a protest will be organised outside Election Commission’s provincial office on Thursday because of the delay in the elections.
PTI leader Firdous Shamim said that both parties have come together to solve the problems faced by the public while keeping their differences aside for the time being, further adding that decision regarding participation in MQM’s demonstration has yet not been made by the party.
Both leaders stated that Sindh government and Election Commission disregarded Supreme Court’s orders of completing the local bodies electoral procedure within 60 days.
