KARACHI (Dunya News) – Ahead of the start of the holy month of Ramazan, profiteers in Karachi are exploiting the locals by increasing the prices of edibles in an attempt to make money from both hands, reported Dunya News on Monday.
The price of gram flour, a product used extensively during Ramazan to make pakoray for the Iftar time, has increased from Rs 170 to Rs 180 per kilogram.
Likewise, the prices of fruits that are used in the making of fruit-chatt have also risen a great deal. The price of mangoes has increased from Rs 80 to Rs 100 per kilogram whereas the price of apples has also risen from Rs 100 to Rs 180 per kilogram and that of bananas has increased from Rs 60 per dozen to Rs 100.
The prices of vegetables have also increased as potatoes are being sold at Rs 25 per kilogram, five rupees greater than their original price of Rs 20; tomatoes are priced at Rs 60 per kilogram with an increase of Rs 20 in their original price. Green coriander and mint are being sold at Rs 10 per bunch after a rise of Rs 5 in the real price.
Local administration has not taken any measures to restrict the profiteers who are exploiting the citizens by increasing the prices of edibles just at the start of Ramazan.
