NANKANA (Web Desk) – Operation conducted against encroachments in Nankana Sahib on Saturday ended up fruitless as the illegal occupants returned to the area and held control over it as the law enforcement agencies seem stranded, reported Dunya News on Sunday.
A case has been lodged against protesters over Nankana Sahib clash while no arrest has been made in this regard so far.
The district administration has assured that the situation is under control whereas the operation has been suspended till the second order.
At least six policemen and a civilian got injured during clash as Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) launched an anti-encroachment drive in Nankana Sahib on Saturday.
The operation was launched to vacate eight kanals of land.
Agitated locals gathered against the anti-encroachment operation in a village near Kot Sant Ram bypass and started protesting against ETPB.
As police tried to disperse the mob, angry protestors pelted them with stones, injuring six policemen. In reaction, a civilian was injured as police resorted to baton charge and aerial firing.
Later, angry vandalised the Evacuee Trust Property Board’s office later set the building on fire. Property worth millions and other records were gutted.
While conversing with Dunya News, ETPB chairman Siddiqul Farooq inquired that why have the District Coordination Officer (DCO) and Deputy Police Officer (DPO) of the city have not taken any action regarding the matter as of now.
Involvement of influential individuals in the whole scenario can be a possibility since no arrests have been reported thus far. Locals stated that no one stopped them when they were constructing the buildings.
