MUZAFFARGARH (Dunya News) - Nurses around the world are celebrating International Nurses’ Day today (Thursday), the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.
The purpose of celebrating this day is to educate the public regarding the importance and efficacy of the nursing profession.
According to report issued by World Health Organization (WHO), United Stated stands on first position with 26,69,603 number of nurses.
In Pakistan, Begum Liaquat Ali Khan started All Nursing Association in 1951 and now 62,651 nurses are currently working in the country who are taking training from registered 72 centres in Punjab, 59 in Sindh, 12 in Balochistan and 19 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Annually, 1800 to 2000 females get certificate of nursing while only five centres are there who are holding diploma and degree programs.

Just like around the world, the day is also being celebrated in Azad Kashmir where the nursing staff is going through numerous troubles and issues.
Due to the apathy of the government, women linked to nursing profession in Azad Kashmir do not attain those incentives that they are eligible of.
The staffers said that they are bound to do work more than they have allotted due to lack of nurses but the authorities do not reward them with any appreciation.
According to health department, more than one thousand nurses are required as per the total number of patients in Azad Kashmir but only 300 nurses are available in the hospitals for services.
