ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) on Monday rejected Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Shamoona Badshah Qaisarani’s appeal and ordered re-election in Dera Ghazi Khan’s PP-240.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali conducted hearing of the plea against the MPA’s disqualification.
The court after hearing the arguments rejected Shamoona Badshah Qaisarani’s appeal against election tribunal’s disqualification decision.
The tribunal had declared the seat vacant and directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold by-election for PP-240.
The MPA then filed a petition in SC seeking suspension of the election schedule which was accepted by the court.
PP-240 results were challenged by independent candidate Khawaja Daud Sulemani over irregularities and malpractices during polling. The petitioner also filed an application under section 76-A that the respondent had concealed her property in her nomination papers.
According to the tribunal, the main election petition was dismissed but the MPA was disqualified over the petition filed under section 76-A regarding the concealment of her property.
