KMC halts dengue fumigation drive for 'commission'

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Municipal authorities have halted dengue fumigation campaign making the locals vulnerable to fatal mosquitoes, Dunya News reported Thursday.

Reportedly, at least 60 vehicles of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) are not operating due to non-provision of fuel. Sources said that the department concerned cut off the supply for not getting commission over fuel.

The drive was initiated on April 13 and was supposed to eradicate mosquito-borne disease in different areas.

Masood Alam, Senior Director Municipal Services KMC, while talking to Dunya News said that an effective mechanism of the drive would be formulated before resuming the suspended drive.


Strategy was to dispatch vehicles to DMCs from the KMC, Alam added


Experts have warned of massive outbreak in coming months if anti-dengue spray is not carried out during April-June period which is termed as its breeding season.

KMC officials have made the locals vulnerable to the fatal virus for commission. The virus had claimed over seven lives last year while a total of at least 2,500 were affected in Sindh.
