NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – Bilateral talks between Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhary and his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar are expected to take place in New Delhi on Tuesday, the Indian media reported.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhary will visit New Delhi tomorrow (April 26) for the Heart of Asia Summit.

The summit aims to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan and strengthening regional economic cooperation and connectivity. Delegations from 17 countries and 12 international and regional organisations are expected to participate in the process, initiated in 2011 by Afghanistan.

High-level talks between Pakistan and India are facing delay since January, when India postponed scheduled meetings after an attack on India’s Pathankot air base on January 2 that killed seven soldiers.

Top diplomats were scheduled to set out a roadmap for talks on settling the Kashmir dispute and other irritants in their ties.

Last week, the Indian government clarified that dialogue between the two countries has not been suspended.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz had earlier said the talks had not been cancelled even though these could be called suspended as there had been no engagement between the two countries since the Pathankot attack.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesman Vikas Swarup last Friday said the dialogue had not been suspended and that the visit by joint investigation team to Pathankot had taken place in a very "constructive and cooperative" environment.
