RAJANPUR (Web Desk) - Army helicopter dropped hundreds of leaflets on Chotu gang dacoits today (Tuesday), warning them to ‘free the hostages and lay down their weapons.’
The flyers were let go over the embattled parts of Kacha areas in Rajanpur district, where at least six policemen were killed during clash with gang members last week. 24 policemen were also held hostage by a gang of heavily armed criminals after a bungled raid on their island stronghold in the Indus river in southern Punjab province.
Up to 1,500 policemen were involved in the failed raid against some 150 men armed with rocket launchers and machine guns.
In a statement issued on Saturday, DG ISPR Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said that army has taken over charge of operation and cordon has been reinforced in the area. Police and Rangers are also participating in the operation under army’s supervision, he added.
Bajwa said that all the resources will be utilized to accomplish the mission.
Today, the security forces have started advancing towards bases of Chotu gang while intermittent firing could also be heard in the area.
Curfew has been imposed in twenty villages including Kacha Jamal and Kacha Moro.
