RAJANPUR (Dunya News) – Irresponsible planning of police authorities is revealed to be the reason behind martyrdom of seven policemen including a station house officer (SHO) and 12 hostages in offensive against Chotu gang in Kacha Jamal and surrounding areas, Dunya News reported Thursday.

Sources privy to Punjab Police stated that only 150 rounds of bullets were given to the personnel while no strategy was formed to for different hideouts of the criminals.

Sources stated that Kacha Karachi and Kacha Hyderabad areas were not taken into consideration while conducting the operation. It has been revealed that number of policemen taking part in the action is also not enough to counter the gang that comprises of over 100 criminals and possesses advanced weapons.

A policeman said that the personnel have not been given anything to eat for three days and they are facing shortage of weapons as well.

Reportedly, relatives of notorious Chotu, gang’s leader avoid helping the law enforcement agencies in fact, they act as his informers.

On Wednesday, around 150 personnel rowed boats to Kacha Jamal at 3am prompting criminals to open fire. Reportedly, woodland in Kacha Jamal, gang’s centre of operations made police movement difficult.

Earlier today, Chotu gang handed over bodies of five police personnel who were martyred in yesterday s confrontation. Police had lost seven men including a station house officer in yesterday’s encounter while 12 personnel were taken hostage.

Police halted advancement in the area on twelfth day of operation today however, the gang is besieged.  Earlier today, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the operation against the notorious gang would continue.

On the other hand, Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) has sought help frpm the army to eliminate the gang.


Chotu gang


Gang’s leader, Ghulam Rasool Bakhrani alias Chotu bears head money of Rs 20 lac while as many as 48 cases pertaining to kidnapping for ransom, murder, dacoities among other crimes are registered against him in different police stations.

First case against Chotu was filed on August 7, 1987.

The gang is also associated with anti-state elements including Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). Earlier it was reported that India-manufactured weapons were seized from armed men arrested in the operation.

At least 100 people constitute the notorious gang that has survived as many as seven police operations in the past.

More than 160 dacoits and miscreants backed by terror outfits and anti-state elements have been copped so far in security operation in Kacha Jamal area.
