Summary Everybody wants investment in Pakistan while PM's family doing business off shores: Khursheed Shah
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A turbulent session of National Assembly (NA) was held Thursday evening, with discussion centering on the hotly debated revelations of Panama Leaks. Opposition members of the NA rejected the judicial commission formed earlier by the government for investigating the claims made by the leaks. The Opposition demanded that an international audit of the allegations should be conducted.
According to the details, Opposition had earlier submitted adjournment motions on the issue, with the government supporting the discussion on the topic. Federal Minister Zahid Hamid requested that a discussion should be held on Panama Leaks, which the Speaker allowed on the basis of Rule 259.
Addressing the Assembly, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader and Opposition leader Khursheed Shah stated that the matter had not been raised by the Opposition or the media but the whole international community.
Shah stated that the facts of the case will come to light after the investigation. He stated that Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz himself had admitted that the companies had been established to avoid taxes.
The Opposition leader stated that on the one hand everybody says that more investments should be made in Pakistan while on the other hand the PM’s family was doing business in foreign countries. He inquired the basis on which such statements were made.
Shah further stated that the PM’s address to the nation had raised further questions and added that he fails to comprehend as to who had recommended to the PM to opt for a public address.
Shah stated that he, on behalf of the Opposition, rejects the judicial commission formed by the government and demanded that an international company should conduct the audit on the issue.
Shah added that the government’s judicial commission will not be able to find any evidence even after 3 years, as they were experts on criminal law but didn’t know anything about an audit. He further added that it was not the job of Judges to conduct audits.
Shah stated that such an audit should be conducted which is accepted by the whole nation.
