ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The decision to conduct census in the country was postponed once again on Friday during a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) held in Islamabad.
The meeting chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif was attended by chief ministers of all the four provinces, federal ministers and flood commission authorities.
The meeting has unanimously decided that census shall be postponed and the new date will be finalised in consultation with provincial governments and armed forces.
It was briefed during the meeting that due to engagement of armed forces in Operation Zarb-e-Azb in Shawal, the required number of troops cannot be spared at this stage.
The meeting was informed by bureau that phased census was not in line with international best practices which can raise serious contentions on the credibility of the exercise.
The meeting also formed a committee of four Chief Ministers, Minister for Water and Power and Minister for Climate Change to finalise the plan regarding the issue of National Flood Protection.
