KARACHI (Web Desk) – Taking notice of Dunya News’ report regarding worsening condition of the government schools, the Sindh Education Department on Monday issued funds worth Rs275.05 million for upgradation of 177 schools in Karachi region.

The funds have been allocated to the headmasters of the schools for renovation of buildings, new furniture in classrooms, availability of clean drinking water for students and construction of new washrooms.

The school buildings in worst condition have mostly been reported in Lyari, Orangi Town, Saddar, Federal B Area and New Karachi.

It may be mentioned here that Secretary Education Fazlullah Pechuho had summoned all the education district officers last week to discuss the situation.

According to Alif Ailaan Pakistan District Education Rankings 2015, Sindh’s performance continued to remain poor and only Karachi from Sindh managed to get in to the top 50 districts.

During 2014-15, four thousand million rupees were allocated under education reforms programme for improving the conditions of school buildings but nobody knows where this amount was utilized.

As per a report of Alif Ailaan Pakistan, the condition of 71% schools in Sindh is non-satisfactory; hence, these buildings have become dangerous for the students & the teaching staff and their lives are at stake.
