Summary Musharraf assured that he will return to Pakistan and face the cases against him after his treatment
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Governor Sindh Ishrat-ul-Ibad late Thursday night contacted former President Pervaiz Musharraf and asked about his well being. Ibad told Musharraf that they were praying his health and recovery.
Musharraf assured that he will return to the country and face the cases against him once his treatment finishes.
He stated that his spinal pain was nearly 10 years old for which he has to travel abroad as treatment for the condition is not available in Pakistan.
The former President is ready to depart abroad from Karachi. An Emirates flight, EK-611, has been booked for him in which he will be travelling to Dubai. The flight will depart at 3:55 AM.
Musharraf is facing four cases against him; one of treason for imposing emergency rule, as well as those involving the unlawful dismissal of judges, the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto and a deadly raid on Islamabad’s Lal Masjid.
The green light for the former military ruler to leave the country comes a day after the Supreme Court lifted a ban on him travelling abroad.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has on Thursday said that the removal of former President Pervez Musharraf’s name from Exit Control List (ECL) is Supreme Court’s decision. He said that those criticising the government over court’s decision gave Musharraf the Guard of Honour when they were in power.
“It was our government that took Musharraf case to Supreme Court. We could have struck a deal in the first place if wanted to”, he said.
Musharraf ousted Sharif from power in 1999 in a bloodless coup and ruled the country until 2008.
