Summary Cannot ban any political party without proofs says Interior Minister
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – While addressing a press conference on Thursday, Interior Minster Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan stated that in the past few days a lot of uproar has been made against Mutthida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
He said that if there are any evidences available regarding the allegations of money laundering, connections with RAW and actions against the law made by MQM then they need to be reported to the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) committee.
He stated that the committee has summoned Sarfraz Merchant for investigation and that a notice has been sent to Merchant in this regards. Furthermore, he added that investigation has been initiated in response to the claims made by Merchant earlier.
He said that Sindh government and the intelligence agencies were also asked to share relevant information regarding this case with the committee.
Nisar said that without substantial evidence, no political party can be banned however a judicial commission will be formed if there is any truth found in the claims.
Nisar said that Merchant should come to Pakistan to facilitate with the investigation process but if he refuses then the British government can be contacted in this regards.
Interior minister said that the FIA contacted Merchant in an indirect manner. He added that Merchant is consulting his lawyers regarding his visit to Pakistan.
Hinting towards the sensitivity of the matter, Nisar said that such cases cannot be dealt through issuing political statements and press conferences.
“Those who are issuing statements do not know that the case is being proceeded in London. Why didn’t they protest when they were allies of Pakistan People’s Party government?”, Nisar said.
He further added that the current government initiated cases related to money laundering and Imran Farooq’s murder. He also said that the Pakistani government surpassed its British counterpart regarding investigation related to Imran Farooq’s murder case.
