ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Advisor to Prime Minister (PM) on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that India released 329 Pakistani nationals in the last three years, Dunya News reported Wednesday.
In a written reply filed in the Senate by Foreign Ministry it is stated that the neighbouring countries had agreed recently to release fishermen sooner than before. According to the ministry, Pakistani prisoners in India now have access to consuls in respect of the agreement signed by Pakistan and India in March 2015.
At least 460 Pakistani citizens in total are imprisoned in India which include 113 fishermen and 347 others. Different cases have been registered against them including drugs smuggling, spying, illegal migration and terrorism.
The report states that India released 67 Pakistanis in 2013, 99 in 2014 while 100 in 2015. Four Pakistani prisoners have been released until March 2016 by India.
