Summary Dunya News brought up the issue of the Pakistani man arrested in India for losing his passport

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Efforts to make hasten up the release of a Pakistani engineer by the name of Mohammad Irfan who was arrested by Indian authorities for losing his passport during his visit to the country are being made by on both sides of the border after Dunya News brought up the issue.

Irfan has been incarcerated in the Amritsar jail for the past 9 years. A report based on the issue is expected to be presented in the Interior Ministry by the Inspector General (IG) Punjab on Monday.

On the other side of the border, a delegation of human rights activists will pay a visit to Irfan in the Amritsar Jail on Tuesday. Activist Ashok Randhawa has also given the hope for Irfan’s quick release.

Irfan went to India a few days before the Samjhota Express incident took place. On his way back, he lost his passport when the explosion took place.

For 9 years, it was uncertain whether he was dead or alive as his family members had no idea regarding his whereabouts. A few days ago, a Pakistani released from Amritsar Jail contacted Irfan’s family members and disclosed information about his health and his imprisonment in India.
