KARACHI (Dunya News) – Accountability Court (AC) has postponed hearing of Dr Asim Hussain’s corruption reference by March 17 after jail authorities termed him under the weather, Dunya News reported Saturday.
The court heard reference against former petroleum minister pertaining to corruption, illegal land allotment and pocketing commission. The court resented jail authorities for not presenting the accused and ordered to inform the court within half an hour.
As ordered, the authorities filed a report in the court within the given time that declared the former minister medically unfit for hearing today.
The report stated that doctors did not allow Dr Asim to appear before the court.
The alleged corrupt official is facing two terror cases one of which was filed recently on February 25.
In the reference filed in February, six suspects have been nominated including Dr Asim. Two of the suspects are on bail while three are wanted. There is a 40-page investigative report against Dr Asim in the reference which includes around 3,074 evidences against him.
The accused is alleged of corruption worth Rs 462 billion. There are accusations of money-laundering, concealed property, illegal allotments, land grabbing, misuse of authority and fraud.
Two suspects in the reference with Dr. Asim, Safdar and Akhtar Hussain are on bail. Abdul Hamid, Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad and Saud are fugitives.
NAB officials reportedly will file third corruption reference against Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Dr Asim on March 9. The reference will indulge in corruption and illegal contracts given by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
The former Managing Director (MD) and the current MD of SSGC are under arrest.
The corruption accused is also facing a case in anti-terrorism court (ATC) for alleged terror facilitation by giving safe havens to militants and target killers in his hospital.
