Summary Opposition Leader said nobody would have cared had NAB continued operation in Sindh only
LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah has on Thursday said that the government decided to amend the law when National Accountability Bureau (NAB) decided to start operation in Punjab. He said that nobody would have cared had NAB continued its operation in Sindh only, reported Dunya News.
Addressing Hameed Nizami Day ceremony, Opposition Leader said that NAB has made a mistake by confronting the ‘clean’ people of Punjab. He added that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been advising to terminate NAB as an institution since 2008.
Khurshid Shah said that strong opposition guarantees strong democracy. “A weak parliament would give birth only to a weak democracy”, he said. “Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif takes some time to understand things. PPP had suggested forming a parliamentary commission against corruption to replace NAB in 2008. When the same NAB was acting in the smaller provinces, the government was fine but it has suddenly turned into a villain when it has started taking action in Punjab too”, he said.
“The people of Punjab are ‘holy cows’. Only the people of smaller provinces are corrupt”, said Shah. He added that learning our lesson from the past was a must. He added that Rangers were also considered angles when they were acting in Punjab, but they are suddenly being targeted now as they had pointed at the nurseries of the terrorists in Punjab.
Opposition Leader said that PPP had no problems with Metro or Orange Line train but this money could have been better utilised if spent on larger schools and hospitals.
Addressing the ceremony, Punjab government spokesperson Zaeem Qadri said that the opposition in all civilised societies should be friendly on issues of national interest and everything should be worked upon in collaboration.
