Polling underway for Tando Adam's 23 wards, two Sanghar UCs

TANDO ADAM (Dunya News) – Polling is underway in 23 wards of municipal committee elections while two union councils (UC) of Sanghar in local government elections that were delayed earlier, Dunya News reported Thursday.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidates are contesting against Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s (PML-F) 16, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) four while Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) three candidates.

In two union councils of district Sanghar, Ghujrro and Harbari, PPP candidates are fighting for the seats against independent candidates.

The polling started at 8:00 am and will continue until 5:00 pm.

At least 57 polling stations have been formed for 23 wards while law enforcers are guarding the sites.

According to an official of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), at least 32 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive, 30 sensitive while ten normal.

It should be noted here that the local government elections were postponed in some union councils due to poor law and order situation. In Tando Adam municipal committee, polling was postponed thrice.

Deputy Commissioner Sanghar, Umar Farooque Bullo has declared a holiday in the district so that every registered vote could exercise his right today.

Earlier in January, PML-F had won 25 seats out of 71 in union councils while lost the rest to the PPP.

It is also worth mentioning here that in PML-F was handed the worst defeat in Sanghar’s electoral history in the last local government eletions. The functional league had lost ten out of 11 town committee’s to Pakistan People’s Party. This has been PML-F’s worst performance in one of the key areas, Sanghar.
