The participants also displayed banners and placards to support MQM Chief demanding to lift ban of his media appearances.
Talking to media, MQM leader and Karachi’s mayor-designate Waseem Akhtar claimed that people from all walks of life participated in the hunger strike.
On January 19, Senior Deputy Convener MQM’s Coordination Committee Dr Farooq Sattar said that the 4-day symbolic hunger strike would register people’s protest on the ban.
Farooq Sattar said the symbolic hunger strike is a token to show solidarity with Altaf Hussain against his media ban by the Lahore High Court. He said that his media blackout was sheer violence of human rights to freedom speech and the Article-19 of the Constitution.
He said MQM devises a protest plan to call an attention of the authorities to the issue and it should be resolved immediately according to the Constitution and rights to freedom of speech.
