Summary Safety standards in residential buildings, factories and work areas of the city are extremely poor.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Goods worth millions of rupees on Thursday turned to ash in various incidents of fire in the city.
In Chawla market area of North Nazimabad, a cloth shop suddenly caught fire. Fire Brigades arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the flames. According to the Fire Brigade officials, the cause of the blaze could not be ascertained. Goods and cloth kept in the store were lost in the raging flames.
Meanwhile fire also burst out in the residential buildings of Khayaban Bukhari area of Defence and Sohrab Goth area due to which expensive household items went up in flames. Officials have cited electrical short cirucuting as the cause behind the blaze. Officials arrived at the scene of the incident and managed to put out the flames.
The safety standards in residential buildings, factories and work areas of the city are almost non-existent with poor regulation and only a few steps for improvement. Electrical wiring in the winding streets of the city and in residential apartment buildings are faulty and improperly maintained. These are the primary reasons for the incidence of fire accidents which have on many occasions even claimed several lives and cause millions of rupees worth of damage each year.
