Summary Auditor General's report indicated at corruption worth Rs. 35 billion, Food department most corrupt

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – The good governance claims of Punjab government have on Thursday been exposed as Auditor General’s report says irregularities worth Rs. 35 billion were found in various departments of Punjab government and no recoveries were made. The biggest irregularity surfaced in Food department where they amounted to Rs. 4.5 billion, reported Dunya News.

According to the annual report of the Auditor General sent to Punjab Assembly, around 12 departments neither did the recoveries nor acted against any government officer, letting billions of rupees from national exchequer drown.

The report says that Excise department didn’t do recoveries worth Rs. 2.71 billion whereas irregularities worth Rs. 1.81 billion were pointed out to the Finance department but the department didn’t take any action.

Irregularities worth Rs. 1.8 billion surfaced in Transport department but the department kept quiet. The food department had irregularities worth Rs. 4.5 billion.

So far, Audit passages worth Rs. 0.258 billion of Punjab Revenue Authority have been prepared.

The report has stressed upon all the departments to immediately contact principal accounting officer so that the recovery process may be expedited.
