ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed on Tuesday stated that those accusing the government for the deaths 2 Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) employees were not even physically part of that protest, which is why the government rejects their allegations.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the Federal Information Minister stated that both the Rangers and the police did not fire at the protesting PIA employees in a demonstration in Karachi but was fired by someone present in the demonstration.

Rasheed stated that it was the responsibility of the Sindh government to bring facts of the incident to light and should expose those who fired the shots.

He stated that the strike by PIA employees was part of a political stunt the purpose of which was to destabilize the country. He further added that the strike was not in the benefit of the PIA employees.

Earlier on Tuesday, two workers of PIA succumbed to their wounds after law enforcers allegedly opened fire to deter protesters’ movement towards Jinnah terminal.

Sindh Police used water cannon to deter the protesting employees who were furthering towards Jinnah International Airport from the head office while Rangers resorted to baton charge.

The law enforcers have been alleged of opening fire that claimed two lives and injured several others.

A worker of PIA’s engineering wing, Inayat Raza died in a hospital after he was admitted in injured condition. However, Sindh Police East DIG has rejected the claims and said that the personnel did not open fire. There are reports that protesters possessed weapons, he added.

PIA employees had threatened to halt flight operations following the failure of talks with the government on the proposed privatisation move.
