JHELUM (Web Desk) - A suspected terrorist blew himself up during an encounter with police near the outskirts of Jhelum on Thursday morning, Dunya News reported. 

A terrorist was seen by some locals planting explosives on the rail track near Grand Trunk Road  in Domeli Mor. On information, police immediately reached the spot and prevented the tragedy.



"The terrorist exchanged fire with police before blowing himself up with a hand grenade," police said. A hand grenade and two pistols were recovered from the suspect.

Police and security forces have cordoned off the site and launched a search operation in the area.



Earlier today, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) in Peshawar defused five home-made bombs planted near an electricity pylon.

Some locals spotted five pressure cooker bombs near a 132 kv tower close to Jameel Chowk on Ring Road and informed police about it.



BDS officials arrived at the scene and neutralised the bombs. An official said that each bomb weighed around four kilograms. Reportedly, the pressure cookers are made in Afghanistan.

The army has been pounding militant hideouts in the tribal areas on the border with Afghanistan since June 2014, disrupting operations for the Tehreek-e-Taliban militants, who have been waging a war against the state for over a decade, killing tens of thousands.

So far, more than three thousand terrorists have been killed in ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan tribal region.
