Summary Pak Army is an important institution, tradition of taking extension should end, says Asif Zardari

KARACHI (Dunya News) - On Monday the former President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the decision of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on his principled decision of retiring on time, reported Dunya News.

Zardari said that Pakistan Army is an important institution and that taking extension by Army Chiefs should not become a tradition.

Earlier, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement stating, “Speculations about extension in service of COAS are baseless.” The statement further quotes COAS that, “Pakistan Army is a great institution. I don’t believe in extension and will retire on the due date. Efforts to route-out terrorism will continue with full vigour and resolve. He also said that Pakistan s national interest is supreme and will be safe guarded at all costs.”

The statement further quotes Army Chief, “It is an honour for me to lead world’s bravest army.”
