KARACHI (Dunya News) – Law enforcement agencies including Karachi police has been on high alert since the security forces confirmed the presence of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group in the country.
Officials have stated that terrorists started joining the extremist organization since the fragmentation of other outlawed organizations namely Al-Qaeda, Tehreek-e-eTaliban and Lashkhar-e-Jhangvi.
According to In-charge Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), IS group has even started to incorporate the wives of terrorists into the network and these couples are going for an all out attempt to strengthen this network.
Authorities have so far frozen 129 accounts that funded terrorism and have confiscated Rs. 1.5 billion.
The presence of the extremist group was revealed when terrorists murdered at least 46 people of the Ismaili Shia minority sect at Safoora Chowrangi. Terrorists had earlier been involved in target killing of police and influential officials.
Investigation into the Safoora massacre unearthed evidence which pointed towards the involvement of IS group. The presence of the organization was confirmed when four prime suspects of the incident admitted to being linked with group.
This revelations stirred law enforcement agencies into action and a massive crackdown against extremists was started in Sindh, Punjab and other provinces leading to numerous arrests. It was then that women wing of the militant organization surfaced as well.
Law enforcement agencies have stated that every action shall be taken for uprooting the scourge of extremism from the country.
