Nation bids farewell to 2015, celebrates 2016 arrival

Summary Festivities and celebrations were seen throughout the country.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Nation bid farewell to 2015 as it celebrated the arrival of the new 2016 year with a good deal of vigor and sheer jubilation. Festivities and celebrations were seen throughout the country as people counted down the seconds for 2016.

In Lahore, musical concert and festivities were arranged in Bahria Town. Crowds of people flocked to the area and immensely enjoyed the performances by renowned musical celebrities. Fireworks and buildings adorned with colourful lights further heightened the celebratory atmosphere as people took a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life to welcome the New Year. A model of the Eiffel Tower in Bahria Town also caught the attention everybody.

Prayers were held in Lahore’s mosques and churches to bless the upcoming year. The streets of the city were filled with groups of youngsters overjoyed at the arrival of the coming year.

They celebrated the New Year’s arrival albeit in their own way, with some preferring a casual drive through the town while others resorted to downright hooliganism.

One wheeling, speeding cars with teenagers hanging out of windows and aerial firing was a common sight in the city as the police looked on helplessly.
A heavy contingent of police was designated throughout the city to curb any major untoward incidents.

Similar scenes were seen in Multan and Gujranwala with people showing jubilation for the country’s entry into 2016. Celebrations marked with spectacular firework displays and people dancing to the sound of dhol were a common sight in the cities.

A musical night welcoming the New Year was also arranged in Bahria Town, Karachi. Perfomances by famed celebrities like Humaira Arshad, Sajjad Ali and many more kept the cheering crowd dancing to their music.

However Karachi’s famed attraction, the beach, remained closed to the public during the closing period of the going 2015 year. Even roads to the area remained closed to public access and were blocked by placing containers. The beloved sea view point remained barren with only police officers patrolling the area. Businesses and shops of the area were also closed as the clock ticked towards the New Year.

Aerial firing in Karachi also resulted in 17 people being injured.
