Summary On average, the power tariff was reduced by Rs2.70 per unit across the country.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Electricity consumers enjoyed relief to some extent due to decline in fuel cost for power generation in 2015, Dunya News reported.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) announced Rs4.42 per unit reduction in electricity price during ten months of current year. On average, the power tariff was reduced by Rs2.70 per unit across the country.

Tariff for the K-Electric consumers was decreased six times and increased three times. 

Comparatively, the month of February remained better as the tariff was lowered by Rs1.84 per unit under the fuel adjustment plan. In September as well, Nepra announced reduction of Rs1.16 per unit. On average, the Karachiites were given 44 paisas per unit relief this year.

On the other hand, price of furnace oil declined to Rs31,208 from Rs43,000 per ton in the international market due to which the government saved around Rs70 billion under the subsidy plan.

Currently, Pakistan s rural areas face blackouts of over 8 hours a day while urban areas suffer up to 6 hours of daily power cuts.
