PM inspects 1320 MW power project at Port Qasim

Summary Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is in Karachi on one-day visit.

KARACHI (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday directed to make Bin Qasim Power project operational providing electricity to national grid by 31 December 2017, the Radio Pakistan reporte. 

He stated this while inspecting progress at 1320 megawatt coal-fired power project at Port Qasim in Karachi. The project will be completed at a cost of $1.5 billion.

The Prime Minister also attended a briefing at Port Qasim on various ongoing development projects.

The Port Qasim Authority chief briefed the Prime Minister on performance, achievements and ongoing development projects.

He said eight terminals are operational at the port and the LNG terminal has been completed in a record time of 11 months. The LNG imported at Port Qasim is regasified and transmitted to required destination by pipelines.

He said 250 industries are working in the Industrial Zone set up at the Port Qasim, which is the busiest and most earning port of the country.

Giving briefing to the Prime Minister, Chinese experts said they are making efforts to complete this project in August 2017.

It may be mentioned here that Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah received PM Nawaz on his arrival at airport, however, he did not accompany him on his visit to Port Qasim.
