Finalized list of candidates for Sindh LG election still incomplete

Summary Many candidates have been unable to start their electoral campaigns due to the problem.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The finalized list of candidates who are to contest Sindh’s Local Government (LG) election still remains incomplete, Dunya News reported Tuesday. The list for the third phase of the LG polls in Karachi to be held on the 5th of December was supposed to be published on the 7th of November. However, the Returning Officers (RO) of 209 Union Committees and 38 Union Council’s have so far been unsuccessful in publishing the final list.

Candidates are facing severe difficulties due to the matter, with many candidates being unable to start their electoral campaigns up until now.

On the other hand, a decision has been made to temporarily take back the police guard that had been provided to all VIPs of 15 districts of interior Sindh for the second phase of LG elections. Sources say that the decision to take back the security was made so as to prevent any untoward incident. However, the guard will not be taken back from police officials.

A notification pertaining to the matter has been issued after approval of Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Qaim Ali Shah.


Election Commission prepares for second of phase of LG polls


The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had earlier stepped up its preparations for the upcoming second phase of the LG polls in Sindh as well as Punjab. ECP had also commenced printing of ballot papers for the second phase of local government elections. In Sindh a total of 15 districts, District Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushehra, Feroz, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparker will hold polls in second phase.

Reportedly, a total of 25 million ballot papers were to be printed for Punjab and nearly 17.5 million ballot papers were to be printed for Sindh.

According to ECP notification, distribution of ballot papers will begin on November 12.

Meanwhile in Punjab total of 12 districts, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, M.B Din, Attock and Jhelum will face electoral process.

The elections have been scheduled for November 19. 22,691,022 locals would exercise voting right in Sindh. The both female and male voters would participate in the polling.

LG elections phase one outcome


The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won the majority of seats in Punjab and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has secured most seats in Sindh in the local government elections. 

The local polls, the first in 10 years, were held in the twelve districts including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Pakpattan, Okara, Lodhran, Vehari and Bahawalnagar of central province of Punjab and eight districts including Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Larkana, Shahdadkot and Jacobabad of the southern province of Sindh.
