Summary The move comes in light of Kasur's massive child abuse scandal.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The NA Standing Committee on Interior has approved the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2014, Dunya News reported.

The session of the NA Standing Committee on Interior was chaired by Rana Shamim in Islamabad today (Tuesday).

The bill states that convicted child abuser will be sentenced to death or put behind bars for life. Any person who reveals identity of the victim will face two-year imprisonment and Rs 25,000 fine will be imposed if no medical treatment is provided to the affected child.

Negligent police officers in the child abuse cases would also be jailed for six months to twenty-four months.

The bill will now be presented in the National Assembly for approval.

The move comes in light of Kasur’s massive child abuse scandal, termed the biggest in the country’s history, which revealed that at least 280 children were filmed being sexually abused by a gang of 25 men.

The abusers allegedly tried to extort money from parents of victims, selling clips of the videos locally for 40 Pakistan rupees each (around 40 US cents) if they did not pay up.

The case became public after victims  families clashed with police in August this year, accusing authorities of ignoring their complaints.
