Summary PMD director has advised the affectees of the quake-hit areas to seek temporary residents elsewhere

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Several moderate-intensity trimmers have been felt in several parts of the country in past 18 hours after massive quake of at least 8.1 scale that hit on Monday.

Several aftershocks were reported in towns and cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) among different parts. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated that at least two shocks were felt two hours after the quake. On Richter Scale, the shocks were recorded of magnitude 3 and 3.5.

PMD Director Mushtaq Shah gave out foreboding that aftershocks are likely to hit for the next days. He further said that small scale trimmers could continue for as many as 30 days. The director has advised the affectees of the quake-hit areas to seek temporary residents elsewhere.

In early hours today, several low-intensity aftershocks found their epicenter at Hindu Kush. Magnitude 4.2 aftershock jolted different areas at 8:09am while another of magnitude 4.3 hit at around 8:26am.

The total of aftershocks felt in different parts of country until filing of this report is at least 12.

A United States (US) based agency reported that epicenter of the quake was at least 250 Kilometres (Km) northeast of Afghanistan capital, Kabul. The trimmer at the epicenter had a depth of at least 213 Km.

Total number of lives lost in Pakistan stands at 229 while more than a thousand persons are injured.

Sadly some reports suggest that staff in different hospitals of the worst-hit KP province is insufficient. However, the provincial government has imposed emergency in hospitals to treat the injured.

On the other hand, at least 150 persons have lost lives in the strong quake that hit northeastern Afghanistan and neighbouring countries. The victims include as many as 12 school girls. In Nangarhar province, bordering Pakistan, six people were killed and 69 others were injured, Najeeb Kamawal, head of the local public hospital told AFP.
