ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government on Thursday has brought amendment in the law and waved off 25 years old age limit for youth seats in the upcoming local body (LB) elections.

The government has brought at least three amendments in the law. Following the amendment, youth of at least 18 years of age, both male and female candidates can contest the elections. Deputy Mayor seats have been stretched in number to three from previously declared one.

Moreover, union councils (UC) have been divided into six wards.

A notification has been issued today by the federal government. The amendment has come in the Representation of the People Act (RoPA) 1976. Islamabad Metropolitan Mayor will have at least three deputies now to coordinate with.

However, the schedule and date for the polls were issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) earlier this week. It will be mandatory to hold elections on Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chairman and Vice-Chairman seats within 60 days.

Potential candidates will be given nomination papers on October 26 till October 29. The commission will subject the papers to scrutiny from November 1 to November 4. However, the last date for withdrawal of papers is November 10. The final list of candidates with no objection on them from any department will be announced on November 11.

The results will be announced on December 3.
