Summary Pakistan wanted to address all issues with India through dialogue, Abdul Basir said.
(Web Desk / AFP) - Referring to Indian extremist group Shiv Sena s threats to visitng Pakistani personalities in Mumbai, Pakistan s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit on Tuesday said the extremist elements in India do not want improvement in relations between the two countries.
The statement comes a day after Shiv Sena workers disrupted a scheduled meeting between the heads of the BCCI chief Shashank Manohar and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Shahryar Khan in Mumbai.
Taking part in a TV programme, he said, "Pakistan wished to hold a dialogue with India over a range of issues, including terrorism and Kashmir."
The Pakistani Envoy regretted violent incidents are on the rise in Maharashtra State and attacks of extremist Hindus on Muslims in India are a cause of concern.
Earlier on Monday, Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq met Abdul Basit in New Delhi, about two months after his proposed meeting with Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz was aborted.
Mirwaiz discussed issues related to Kashmir during his 70-minute meeting with Basit.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took serious note of the increasing number of violent protests aimed at disrupting scheduled events in India involving Pakistan nationals.
The FO urged that effective measures are required to prevent continuous recurrence of such incidents in India.
Relations between Pakistan and India have strained since the start of the year, with regular ceasefire violations on the disputed Line of Control in the disputed Kashmir valley.
That led to the cancellation of talks between the security advisers of both countries in August.
