QUETTA (Dunya News) – At least 11 people have been killed and 23 wounded as result of an explosion in a bus on Saryab Road, Dunya News reported.
According to details, at least five to six kilogram (Kg) of explosive material was placed at roof top of the bus. The bomb went off with a time device. Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti has confirmed it to be a terrorist attack and said that common citizens were targeted and the aim was to maintain a sense of fear in the city and province.
As many as 40 people were on the ill-fated bus.
The Frontier Corps (FC) personnel cordoned off the area and those wounded were shifted to a hospital. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was also summoned to examine the area.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khattak said that the attack was carried out using a time device. Few injured were discharged after treatment while several persons are believed to be in critical condition.
Chief Minister (CM) Abdul Malik Baloch has condenmned the terror act. Baloch said that emergency has been imposed in hospitals following the incident. One child is among the innocent killings, he added.
He said that daily wage labourers were targeted which is nothing but cowardice. He ordered the medics to remain on duty until patients are out of danger. However, no militant organisation has claimed repsonsiblity of the attack.
Earlier in July, a suicide blast claimed at least two lives near Sardar Bahadur Khan Women s University. Balochistan has been a victim of hostilities since more than decade with target killings and other acts of terror. In the past 15 years, at least 1,400 tragic incidents have targeted different communities including Hazara.
Acts of terror in Balochistan raise doubts over whether China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), an investment of billions of US dollars is workable or not.
Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, in a statement issued today has said that 18 crore people are united against terrorism. The statement condemned Quetta blast. He said that terrorists do not deserve any leniency. CM Shahbaz said that Pakistani people would be victorious in war on terror.
