Summary PPP defeated JI's candidate by big margin in what was considered to be JI's stronghold
UPPER DIR: (Dunya News) – Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Sahibzada Sanaullah has on Tuesday defeated Malik Azam of Jamaat Islami (JI) in Upper Dir PK-93 by-election according to unofficial, unverified results. It was considered to be JI’s stronghold previously, reported Dunya News.
According to details, Sahibzada Sanaullah bagged 21,788 votes while the runner-up Malik Azam could only secure 14,617 votes. Sanaullah won by a margin of 7171 votes while the turnout remained around 34%.
It is pertinent to mention here that women were allowed to vote in this area after 4 decades. Female staff was deployed at the women’s polling stations and women flocked to polling stations in large numbers.
