LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Shutter down was observed in various cities of Punjab by medical stores and pharmaceutical industry against the amendments made in the Drug Act 1976 upon Punjab Chemist Council’s call. According to details, people belonging to pharmaceutical industry and medical stores held a protest in various cities of Punjab including Lahore against the amendments in Drug Act 1976.  A protest rally was led outside Lohari Medicine Wholesale Market. Chemist council leaders said that the license-holders doing genuine medicine business are being harassed while the manufacturers of fake medicine have been given free hand. They said that export worth millions of rupees has been affected by the ‘unconstitutional’ amendment.

The chemist council threatened to give a strike call for indefinite period of time after Eid-ul-Azha if the amendments are not withdrawn. The protesters said that Punjab government made the ‘unconstitutional’ amendment despite the presence of a federal law.
