LAHORE (Dunya News) – The photo evidence released by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to claim that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Khawaja Hassaan pressured the opponent into withdrawing candidacy turns out to be a two-months old photo taken at another event.

Hassaan was declared winner unopposed after opposing candidate, PTI’s Muhammad Nawaz withdrew his candidacy. This withdrawal caused a stir in the party which later claimed that the opponents were pressured into withdrawing candidacies.

PTI had released a photo today in which familiar faces including candidates were seen negotiating and agreeing and claimed that PML-N had pressured the opposing candidates into withdrawal.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Umar Virk rebutted by saying that the photo in question is actually two months old and is of an event where the parties met to strike a deal brokered by the police to end a dispute. He said the police did not pressure anyone to withdraw candidacy.

The withdrawal has caused a stir in PTI which is now resorting to new allegations every day.

Khawaja Hassaan was elected as Chairman UC 107 unopposed, following which, PTI chairman Imran Khan took notice of party candidate’s withdrawal.

PTI’s local administration resorted to allegations after Khan sought a report on the incident. It claimed that the police were used to pressure the opposing candidates into withdrawing candidacies.
